二男の新揮 (Nikki, 18 ) は、府立工専の夏休み中、三菱重工のインターンシップを体験する予定です。子供達は、大人になってきていますな。
私どもの世界オンライン教育学会 (World Association for Online Education = WAOE) は、代表的な援助活動として、南米のアマゾン沿いの国の国立大学の遠隔教育学部のためのMoodleサイト（学習管理システム）を米国にあるサーバーにインストールしてホストしています。当学会の役員であるインドの国立開放大学の行政官との連携で、遠隔的に達成できました。
2009年２月２２日～３月１７日、短期大学の１年の終わり頃の学生１２名のニュージーランド短期留学に同行した間、保護者やOJCの関係者がその様子を最大限フォローできるため、ビデオブログを作成しました。美しいニュージーランドの写真集も、ブログ（ウェブ上の日記）の形で見ることができるようになっています。帰国してからでも、OJCのサイトに載っていますので、いつでもアクセスできます。以下は内容の概要やアクセスの仕方を紹介します。
この留学は、異文化リサーチ演習という授業の一部分として、ホームステイや Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) での３週間の授業や半日前後の楽しい見学の旅で、ニュージーランドの文化を研究しました。その大学の計画は、マオリという現地民の文化を含む「バイカルチュラル・スタディーズ」というプログラムをOJCに提供しました。しかも、学生の最終日のプレゼンテーションは、OJCの授業の一部分として、異文化リサーチ演習の担当者が評価するものでしたので、筆者がそれもビデオに撮りました。このビデオだけブログに載せず、フラッシュメモリーを使用して、Windows Media Player フォーマットで保存しました。帰国後、OJCの授業担当者にそのファイルを渡しました。ブログで提供しているビデオの中でも、対話などを通じ、自然な文脈での各学生の英語のスピーキングを聞くことができます。
ビデオブログと写真集のアクセスの方法は、OJCのユーザ名とパスワードで、English News Letter (ENL) にログインして「特別増刊ニュージーランド研修」というブログを選択します。ENLのURLアドレスは, http://commune.wilmina.ac.jp/weblog/enl/, または、mywill.wilmina.ac.jpというショートカットアドレスなどからMyWillにログインし、「学習サポート」の範疇からEnglish News Letterにクリックしたら、アクセスできます。ニュージーランド研修のブログにログインしてから、より新しいエントリーが上にありますので、ビデオ１のところまでスクロールダウンをし、順番でビデオ６までプレーをすれば、完全に体験できます。それぞれのビデオが約５-９分間まで編集してありますので、45分間位で観賞できます。色々なクライストチャーチ市内の写真もブログに入っています。
ビデオの概要
1. 滞在の初め頃、ゴンドラに乗り、山の上から地域全体を見る旅（有料の活動は留学費に含まれました）。2. 羊、アルパカの牧場で馬乗り、スピードボート、バーベキュー、牧場の9歳の男の子とのインタービュー。3. マオリ手芸、歌、ダンス、マオリの代表者とのインタービュー。4. 南極センターの講演、体験、ペンギンなど。5. ホームステイ先の様子やその家族について（12名、12ヶ所）のインタービュー。6. さよならパーティ、CPITの担当先生とのインタービュー。
ホームステイの家族も出席したさよならパーティでは、日本の他大学２つのグループも同時に終了しましたが、OJCの学生だけがマオリ語、日本語で歌い、学生それぞれが英語で感謝の挨拶もすることができました。
筆者の（OJCの学生がもっているような）個人のブログでは、美しい自然の写真集とビデオ（上記のカーバーフォト）を載せました。ビデオの内容は、クライストチャーチの海岸のがけを登りながら、ニュージーランドのことを語りました。ログインは必要ありません。URLアドレスは： http://commune.wilmina.ac.jp/weblog/waoe/2009/03。
これらのビデオブログは、ニュージーランドまで、デジタルビデオカメラ、三脚台、フラッシュメモリー、色々なコードなどの道具を運び、現場の大学のコンピュータを使って作成しました。データをインターネットでアメリカのビデオプロバイダー経由で、学内ブログにリンクするチャレンジでしたが、幸い技術的にスムースにできました。学生達の笑顔を見ても、このOJCの短期留学に同行してよかったなと思います。

英文エッセイご寄稿のお願い
チャイルド・リサーチ・ネット(以下CRN)は、1996年にスタートしたインターネット上の子ども学研究所です。CRNのホームページを拠点に、子どもをめぐるさまざまな問題について広く世界の研究者や研究施設と意見や情報の交換を行うことで、その問題解決に寄与することを目指しています。その研究活動の一環として、青少年によるエッセイを紹介するYoung Researchers’ Papersというコンテンツを展開しています。
この度、大阪女学院大学・短期大学のスティーブ・マッカーティ先生にご協力をいただきまして、皆様方に英文エッセイのご寄稿をお願いすることになりました。テーマは自由です。最近日本や世界で起きていることについて気になること、若い人たちの間で話題になっていること、日本のポップカルチャーの紹介、海外旅行をしてみて感じたことなど、自由なテーマでご自分の考えを表現してくださればと思います。長さも自由ですが、Ａ４紙で2枚から４枚程度にまとめて、そのWordファイルをスティーブ・マッカーティ先生にご提出ください。年間12本ぐらいの掲載を予定しておりますが、選出につきましては、マッカーティ先生がご担当くださいます。また、英語につきまして、多少手を加えた方がよいと先生が判断された場合には、先生が校正したうえで、CRNにお送りくださることになっていますので、英語につきましてあまり心配なさらずにテーマに集中してください。
掲載されました場合は、気持ばかりでございますが、1,000円の図書カードをお送りします。ご参考までに、下記のＵＲＬでいままでの作品をご覧ください。皆様のご応募をお待ちしております。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

このプロジェクトのきっかけは、1999年から、世界オンライン教育学会を通じてチャイルド・リサーチ・ネットと連携し、顧問となり、ベネッセ・コーポレーション東京本社のグローバル教育やバイリンガリズムに関する監修にもなりました。チャイルド・リサーチ・ネットのサイトで掲載してもらった最新の論文は、本学のそれぞれの英語コンテストを分析しました（下のリンクで読めます）。その結果、本学の学生の優秀さを認めてくださいました（下で引用されている英文の招待）。

TEACHERS:
This is an offer exclusive to OJC from January 2009 through 2010, with no deadlines. Besides a token gift, students can get an accomplishment for their CV (resume) and a connection to a leading Japanese educational corporation. At the same time, the excellence of the OJC curriculum and students gets publicized.
Student papers published online can serve as models for future classes such as Topic/Theme Studies. Three student papers have already been published in 2009. The first was originally an intermediate level Topic Studies I paper, then a winner of the presentation contest, and finally developed into the article "Bullying! - Causes and Possible Solutions." In March 2009 the second paper was published, "Facing the Global Crisis of Illegal Logging." In June the third paper was published, "Eliminating Violence against Women in Japan and around the World." The fourth published paper was co-authored by students and may reflect well on the OJC study abroad program: “Cross-Cultural Consciousness: Studying Abroad in New Zealand.” A colleague passed on a manuscript from one of his students that was published in November 2009, the fifth article in this series: "Santa Claus in History, Myth, and Image."
As you come across student papers that are amazing and would be of interest to readers of English about Japan or distinctive Japanese perspectives, please get an electronic version from students, edited into roughly 3-4 pages single spaced, with graphics OK (including their e-mail address to contact them about the gift and paperwork). You or the student could attach it to an e-mail message to: mccarty@mail.goo.ne.jp
